Cote des Blancs

In the Champagne region of France, a search for lightness and delicacy will inevitably lead you to the Cote de Blancs.

Located in the department of Marne, this area streches for about 8000 acres or 12 miles with east facing slopes that are almost exclusively planted with the grapes that gave the region its name: Chardonnay.

Of six villages that have been given Grand Cur status, only four are actually located on the Cote des Blancs namely Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger but all municipalities between Cuis and Bergeres-les-Vertus have their vineyards on the Cotes.

The Cote des Blanc's grand cru villages are highly regarded for their quality of fruit and many the best known prestige cuvees of the big Champagne houses source their fruit from here. The complete list of grand cru villages is:

  • Avize
  • Chouilly
  • Cramant
  • Le Mesnil-sur-Oger
  • Oger
  • Oiry
