Glera

Glera is the grape variety grown for the production of the sparkling wine Prosecco in the Veneto region of Italy, traditionally in the area near Conegliano and Valdobbiadene in the hills north of Treviso, a variety which was until recently known by the same name as the fermented and sparkling product. This confusion was created when certain districts were elevated to DOCG status, and authorities sought to prevent any instances of inferior wines trading upon the deservedly famous name of the better growing-regions.
