Vermentino is an Italian take on the Malvasia, which arrived from Spain toward the end of the 14th century. A bit of it is planted in Tuscany, where it blends well, but more prominent are the Sardinian and Ligurian versions—the variety does particularly well planted in proximity to the sea. These amber-yellow grapes yield a wine of clear gold with green highlights, elegantly aromatic with herbal notes as well as tropical fruit tones. Firm acids support the palate’s lithe texture, peachy fruit and saline minerality.
