Tuscany

Located in central Italy along the Tyrrhenian coast, Tuscany is home to many of the nation's most popular wines, and a few of its most distinguished. The nine DOCGs include such famous names as Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and several different manifestations of Chianti.

In addition, there are thirty-three DOCs, which now include wines that were previously known as Super-Tuscans, and made in the Bordelaise style from French cultivars.

White wines include the dry Vernaccia from San Gimigniano, as well as the nobly sweet Vin Santo, produced from a number of possibly varieties. Viticulture predates the Common Era, and Tuscany has been exporting its wines since many centuries BCE.
