A field Blend from within the city limits of Vienna. 6 grapes (Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, Grauburgunder, Weissburgunder, Chardonnay and Traminer), harvested in one day and fermented together. The Zahels have been making these wines for several generations but only within the last 30 years have they been marketing Gemischter Satz under Richard Zahel and his son Alexander.
At one time, the grapes were harvested and blended in order to make a wine that had a standard quality - in case one grape didn't do well, then the others would come to the rescue. But the Zahels decided to take these 'Field Blends' seriously, the idea being to showcase the qualities of each grape.
