Hidden Treasures NR7 Blaufrankisch Breitenbrunn 2017
We are in Breitenbrunn, a small village between the Leithaberg mountains and the Neusiedlersee lake. Lichtenberger-Gozalez, the winery by Martin Lichtenberger and his better half, Adriana Gonzalez, produces minimal-intervention wines from old vines and limestone and shist soils. It is as simple as that. They see winemaking as an ancient craft that doesn't need to be reinvented. What is key to their philosophy is to make wines that don't make concessions to mainstream taste. Uncompromising and authentic, Lichtenberger-Gonzalez wines are always full of tension and terroir expression. Selective hand harvest and spontaneous fermentation in open vats or used barrel is followed by ripening in used barrels on its fine lees. Wines are bottled with minimal sulfur additions and without fining or filtration.
The 2017 Blaufrankisch shows notes of ripe sour cherry, black pepper, and spice. The wine is full of tension with good acidity and structure.
