Donabaum

Donabaum Johann Gruner Veltliner Federspiel 2020

$ 24.00

Lively with notes of yellow apple and Donabaum's signature minerality. From vineyard holdings between Loiben and Spitz along the Danube. Never any oak treatment and no botrytis, 2 days maceration and 6-7 months on the lees adds a depth of creaminess and spice.

Johann Donabaum's Federspiel is always a wonderful surprise. A combination of texture from lees contact, minerality from the cool vineyard sites, freshness since there is no botrytis. A blend of creamy fruit and balanced acidity, weight and spice and best of all, affordable! An every day quaffer that is also extremely versatile.

The Donabaum family estate dates from the 1600s. Historically it was a blend of agricultural enterprises, however, when at the young age of 19, Johann Donabaum began to assist with the winemaking, and after attending enology school in Krems and a stint at F.X. Pichler, he began to make changes. The estate changed to pure viticulture, the attention shifted to quality in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the cellar. Vintage, vineyard and terroir took precedence. What resulted immediately began garnering international acclaim and the quality of the wines is indisputable.
