Homonna Hatari Furmint 2015

Attila Homonna's Hatari vineyard produces his top furmint.

The name „Határi” stands for border, as this vineyard in fact is situated on the border of two villages (Erdőbénye and Olaszliszka). It has been traditionally one of the best vinyard sites of the area. The soil is rich in caoline and rhyolite. Attila’s parcel was planted in the first decade of the 20th century with the so called „madárkás” („birdy”) clone of Furmint. This old clone results small bunches with tiny loos berries. The vines were planted on meter to meter on single gobelet according to the old tradition in Tokaj. These old vines are producing minuscule yields with extraordinary taste. The vinification here is exact the same as in case of the „Domaine” blend.

Tasting notes: Almost shy on the nose when freshly opened, but with time opens up layer upon layer of dryed herbs and citrus like aromas. Very complex and multifaceted, yet subtle nose. On the palate it is strict, linear and very dense. One can feel the extreme concentration in the wine, however it remains feather light on the palate. This wine is all about elegance and structure. The herbal, stony citrus like aromas are lingering on the palate for a long time.
