Grabenwerkstatt

Winemaker friends Michael Linke and Franz Hofbauer set out to produce radically different wines in the Wachau Valley, wines that they rightfully describe as old-fashioned, wines that had not been tasted young in a few generations. By revitalizing vineyards that others deemed too difficult to cultivate, like the Ried Brandstatt, the duo was able to gain access to ancient vines, cooler microclimates, and to work these vineyards following strict biodynamic principles. But it is the purist approach in both vineyard and cellar that yield wines of merciless austerity and restraint, focused and direct translations of their unique terroir. Somewhat challenging and polarizing in their youth, these wines will reward those that patiently wait for their immense potential to show itself.
