Remoortere

After honing his craft in South Africa and at Julien Zernott's Pas de l'Escalette estate, Antoine returned to the family estate, Château de Maupas, to work with his father, Joseph Van Remoortere.

Antoine took his favorite 4-hectare parcel of his parents' estate under his own wings and converted them to organic farming. The first vintage bottled as the Remoortere Menetou Salon Blanc (and Rouge, which we might carry in the future) was 2011.

Menetou Salon Blanc means Sauvignon Blanc, just like in the famous Sancerre region. The two appellations also share climatic and soil conditions, and hence produce comparable wines, but we feel that Antoine's wines are quite a bit more exciting and energetic than your typical Sancerre: grown on clay-limestone slopes of Frouchet and Reigny, mineral-driven and focused, his Sauvignon Blanc delivers ultimate drinking pleasure and purity.

His philosophy in the cellar is to work with perfectly clean fruit and to strive for minimal intervention. Native yeasts ferment the wine and only a hint of sulfites is added at the very end to stabilize and preserve the beauty of the finished wine.
