Podere ai Valloni
Boca 'Vigna Cristiana' 2008 Podere Ai Valloni

Boca DOC is one of the most unique and exciting micro appellations of Northern Piemonte, also known as Alto Piemonte. This part of the region, far cooler and more overcast than the famous Langhe in the South, is home to a variety of fantastically age-worthy, Alpine, mineral and earthy expressions of Nebbiolo, often blended with the local Vespolina and Uva Rara (Bonarda). The secret to BOCA is the sub soil, composed of pure solid porphyry, a type of iron rich granite that generates Nebbiolo driven wines with a well known "swampy", mineral/rocky and bloody character, interlaced with the classic notes of violets, maraschino cherry and spices. Some of the most vibrant acidities you can find in Piemonte guarantee these wines decades and decades of aging potential and complexity development.
PODERE AI VALLONI is the most historical winery of this appellation which only produces 1 wine every vintage, the BOCA doc. The winery is a family run operation that pioneered this wine through a passion and love for this ancient site, where gallic (Celtic) tribes first planted the vine prior to the Roman invasion. The Sartorio family were the very first to establish the official BOCA denomination (today a DOC) and their single-vineyard VIGNA CRISTIANA, was the very 1st official vineyard to be entered into the registry of the appellation, with serial number 1 dated 1970. Today this vineyard, enhanced by 40+ years of age, is the fulcrum of the winery's production and their pride.
