Hidden Treasures by Moric
Hidden Treasures by Moric HID 2 Somlo 2016
With the Hidden Treasures projects, Roland Velich (of the MORIC wines) seeks out undiscovered winemakers who work with indigenous grapes, determined to give these treasures their due attention. With Hidden Treasures No. 1, we met Attila Homonna from the famed Tokaj region, whose own wines are spectacular (and also available from Winemonger.) Here is Hidden Treasure Project No. 2, a cooperation with Tamas Kis from Somlo. Tamas works with Harslevelu, Furmint, and Welschriesling from the volcanic soils of Somlo and this is a dry white wine blended from all 3 varieties. He farms his small estate organically working with old vines grown in the basalt-rich, black soils of this famous hill, the smallest wine-growing appellation of Hungary, and was recently named one of Hungary's best young winemakers.
