From vineyards in Weissenkirchen, Durnstein and Loiben, with relatively young vines (15 years or less) planted close to the Danube on sandy soils. The wine ferments in steel tank and rests on its fine lees until February. Notes of honeydew and florals, with a lovely, almost creamy nose and a bit of white pepper spice.
2018 brought a well balanced and evenly ripe vintage with the kind of yields many winemakers dream of. In fact, quite a few of the more senior winemakers of the Wachau valley had never seen yields like 2018 produced, ever. In the Spitzer Graben they reduced yields in early July, only to lose a good 30 percent to hail mid-July. Overall the vintage's yield was average but quality was top, similar to 2015 and 2017 but a bit more elegant, due to better water supply. Due to warmer years, the Hogl family is starting to harvest earlier every year and at night to bring in fresh and cool grapes. In 2018 they started on September 10th.
