Pollerhof Frau Mayer Gruner Veltliner 2019
Pollerhof is a one man operation in the Wienviertal, Austria's largest wine region. Dotted like an archipelago across verdant farmland are pockets of vineyards on rolling hillsides. Erwin Pollerhof's family has been farming in the small hamlet of Roschitz near the border of Czechoslovakia for almost 300 years. He makes an array of aromatic wines but the Frau Pollerhof is his top wine. Named after the neighbor who observed his excellent farming practices and offered him her old vine Grüner Veltliner vineyard in return for some bottles of each delicious vintage.
The 75 year old vines grow on granite with cover crops roamed by Erwin's chickens so no pesticides or herbicides are used. The grapes are hand picked and fermented with a special native yeast Erwin cultivates, only Acacia foudres are used and it sits for up to 10 months on the lees.
A wine of great depth with notes of fresh picked favas, fine spice and vivid minerality.
