PINOT NERO (Blauburgunder) is the most representative red varietal of Alto Adige. Here the grape picks up extremely delicate, femminine and Alpine characteristics. Almost like a Mercurey in Burgundy but with a stronger backbone of acid that despite it's "light personality" allows the wine to withstand 10 years of aging in the best vintages. Coming from a single-vineyard and aged for 12 months in oak barriques, the "Pigeno" showcases the typical Alto Adige notes of wild strawberries, cassis and juniper berries, with a lovely mineral note on the palate from the rocky soils.
The RISERVA is a powerful but elegant expression of the pinot noir. Harvested at reduced yields from older vines where the soil is rich in porphyry, the Riserva is fermented and macerated for twenty days in small French oak, half new and half second-filling, where it ages for the subsequent fourteen months. After blending, the wine rests three months in stainless, with a further year of bottle-age before being put on sale. Elegant and vivid, with aromas of spice and sandalwood, cherries and raspberries. Full-bodied and expressive.
