Tornesi is hallmark name in the historical Brunello town of Montalcino. As a family they have owned agricultural land in this area since the 1700's. A breed of true Tuscan farmers, farming organically, Maurizio Tornesi's is the epitome of a true, authentic and generous "contadino" (peasant). His wines speak from the heart of a superb vineyard site, located right in the town of Montalcino and right next to Biondi-Santi's 'Greppo' Estate. Increased exposure due to the steep terrain, as well as older vines (30-40) produce juicier and more generous wines than many of his competitors. The winery is family owned and still family run, with Maurizio and his 2 daughters. Aside from the classic Brunello Di Montalcino, the winery also produces a Rosso Di Montalcino DOC and a young, vibrant and fresh baby-rosso labelled as 'vino da tavola'.
If Rosso Di Montalcino is a "baby Brunello", then Tornesi's "Canto Del Cuculo rosso" is none other than a "baby Rosso". Made from the youngest of vines and blended from his 3 vineyard sites, the fruit that does not make the Brunello or the Rosso, ends up in this stainless steel, fresh, vibrant and delicate expression of Sangiovese Grosso 100% made in Montalcino.
