Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC


Viticulture has flourished here since the days of ancient Rome, in the wine region now known as Friuli-Venizia Giulia. Best known for its white wines, the varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Verduzzo, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco and Ribolla Giallo play a supporting role to the primary grape-type, the Friuliano (formerly known as Tocai). Merlot is the leading red wine variety, although new plantations of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Pignolo, Refosco, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso and Schioppettino have led to a total surface of 35% under vines producing red wine. Fhe area of Corno di Rosazzo, within the DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli, is famous for its terroir, rich in arenaceous and marn-clay, that gives an unmistakable flavor to the wines.
