Clemens Krutzler
Clemens Krutzler Blaufrankisch 2022
$ 24.80
Falstaff's best young winemaker of 2024 Clemens Krutzler makes this delightful, terroir driven Blaufrankisch from two of his family's north and west facing, estate vineyards, Ried Weinberg in Deutsch Schuetzen and Ried Reihburg in Eisenberg.
These are younger vines grown in the famed loam and schist soils of the Eisenberg district. The Eisenberg and its iron rich soils lies on the Pannonian plain benefitting from warm days and cool nights. This distinct terroir results in wines of optimal ripeness and fantastic acidity with a backbone of pure minerality. In addition, Clemens picks this wine a bit early to fully realize its crisp acidity. There is gentle extraction of the fruit, 6 days on the mash with some whole cluster to lift all that bright aromatics. It is then fermented in stainless steel tanks for 6 months before being moved to used wooden barrels for an additional 6 months of aging. 6 months in the bottle before release, minimal S02 makes this a fresh lively take on the indigenous grape of Burgenland. A perfect accompaniment for food or lightly chilled for any time of day.
