Thomas Batardiere Cabernet Franc des Noels 2017
100% Cabernet Franc from a lieu dit named Clos des Noels near Rablay-sur-Layon in Anjou. Thomas owns a miniscule parcel of it, 0.15 hectares of these very special old vines planted 193. The soil is a mix of schist and feldspar in clay. He hand harvests whole bunches are harvested and put into vats with the stems for 5-6 weeks maceration. Fermentation and aging finish in stainless steel . As always, farming is certified biodynamic by DEMETER, there is no intervention, no pumpover, no punchdown. Only native yeasts are used and there is virtually no sulphur (less than 1mg) at bottling. This is a vibrant lively version of Cabernet Franc with floral red fruits and aromatic leafy notes over elegant fine tannins.
