D'Angelo Aglianico Del Vulture DOC 2017
D'Angelo is one of the oldest and most traditional producers of Aglianico Del Vulture. They are a historic family estate, named one of WS Top 100 wineries and are located in the heart of Basilicata in Southern Italy. Their Aglianico Del Vulture is a blend of fruit from the winery's best vineyards of Canneto, Caselle and Valle Del Noce which sit at 400m above the sea on the slopes of Mount Vulture. Though Mount Vulture is now a dormant volcano these are considered excellent sites and are some of the closest Cru sites to the Volcano's extinct crater. The wine undergoes 10 days maceration in cement and only native yeasts are used. After fermentation it rests for 18-20 months in traditional large old barrels and then 6 months in bottle. Intense, complex with beautiful Aglianico garnet hues. Notes of wild fennel, prunes, garrigue, ash and a touch of exotic spice. Elegant tannins with a long sandal-wood finish.
