Fuchs-Steinklammer Gemischter Satz White Jesuit 2021

$ 24.50

This unique wine is a testament to winemaker Stefan Fuchs' desire to experiment with traditional Austrian varietals. Sourced from a young vineyard in Vienna's southern outskirts, the grapes for this Gemischter Satz were carefully selected for their aromatic qualities. Unlike many traditional Gemischter Satzes, this wine is comprised entirely of aromatic varieties, including Traminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Rotgipfler, and Zierfandler. The winemaking process is characterized by minimal intervention. After a two-week maceration, the wine is gently pressed and aged for a year in used French oak barrels. No fining or filtration is employed, and sulfur additions are kept to a minimum. The result is a wine that is both complex and approachable, with flavors of ripe stone fruit, citrus, and floral notes. The influence of the sandy-clay and flysch sandstone soils, as well as the unique microclimate, is evident in the wine's mineral character and vibrant acidity. The name "Jesuit" is a nod to the Jesuitensteig, the road where the vineyard is located. This wine offers a fascinating exploration of the potential of Austria's aromatic white grapes, showcasing the Stefan's commitment to natural winemaking and terroir expression.
