The Grabenwerkstatt wines are revered by terroir purists for their precise and transparent expression of place and for their extreme age-worthiness. This bottling is from grapes picked at ultimately perfect ripeness from highly sought after plots on the Trenning vineyard.

The Trenning lies at the end of the Wachau abutting the Waldviertel to the north. It is higher than any other Wachau vineyard, up to 550 meters high. The soils are also unique, graphite with gneiss and a bit of lime. However, because of its southern orientation, the harsh, cold and windy, but dry weather is mitigated by sunshine. Trenning is so extreme that all work must be done by hand and they follow biodynamic practices. It is a wonderful place for Riesling to grow and struggle, gaining complexity and purity of flavor, and though the most difficult of all of their vineyards, winemakers Michael Linke, Franz Hofbauer also say it is their favorite.
