Michael Linke and Franz Hofbauer craft radically different wines from high, dry, cool sites at the far end of the Spitzer Graben. Winemaking is old school: native yeast, unfiltered, never any botrytis. Completely biodynamic. Pure craftsmanship. In 2013 they purchased eight completely wild and overgrown terraces with soils of dark schist and paragneiss with thick topsoil that had been abandoned for 10 years. They cleared the vineyard and re-stacked 120 square meters of stone walls and replanted with cuttings of Gruner Veltliner from fellow vintners in the Wachau. This is the 5th vintage of the Schon.
