H is the third and final wine in the single-vineyard Furmint series and new project by Roland Velich. H stands for Hasznos – a vineyard historically classified as Erste Lage (First Vineyard). The name is derived from the Hungarian word haszon, meaning benefit or fertility – signifying the outstanding quality of the site. Hasznos was first mentioned in a real estate contract in 1467 showing it is a historically significant location. Hasznos lies higher than Görbe or Turoska, at 230 to 260 meters above sea level, with a south-southeast exposure that ensures long periods of sunshine but cooler temperatures. This balance gives the vineyard its characteristic expression – with full ripeness of the fruit, while preserving freshness and aromatic precision. The vineyard rests on volcanic subsoil composed of rhyolite, rhyolite tuff, and highly silicified tuff, often interspersed with cavities of volcanic origin. the wine a distinct mineral tension and texture. Hasznos is the most round of the single-vineyard wines. Ripe apple and pear, yellow blossoms, a nutty depth, and a hint of stony, smoky reduction. There is an exotic herbal-spice accent and a subtle earthiness. Bone dry.
