It is Blaufrankisch treated like Grand Cru Burgundy. 80-100 year old Blaufrankisch vines from Roland's sites atop the Lutzmannsberg plateau, the ancient weathered remains of a volcano. For the Lutzmannsberg the grapes represent the full mix of soil types: iron rich clay and sand over limestone producing a wine of immense complexity and elegance. This is a densely packed, layered version of Blaufrankisch, well structured and certainly not opulent but all in perfect balance. A wine that may be enjoyed for very long time.
