Fuchs means fox. A playful label for a fun yet serious wine. A co-fermented mix of red and white grapes, including Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Gruner Veltliner, Gutedel, and many more, grown in one of their oldest vineyards, Ried Kadolzberg, on sandy loam and Flysch sandstone, with chalk-rich Dolomite limestone in the subsoil. The vineyard is located in Mauer, the 23rd district of Vienna, and is notable for its warm days and cool nights. Organically farmed, hand-picked grapes. The whole bunches undergo 5 days of carbonic maceration in stainless steel before being crushed by foot. The juice is aged in pressure-treated tanks to preserve the trapped Co2. It is unfined and unfiltered with minimal S02 additions. Originally, this Gemischter Satz (although it is not legally allowed to be called Gemischter Satz because of the inclusion of red grapes) was only able to be enjoyed at the family's Heurigen (wine tavern). It is a wonderfully refreshing and layered wine appropriate for food or to sip, lightly chilled, throughout the day.
