Stroblhof

Stroblhof Sauvignon Blanc Nico 2016

$ 29.50

STROBLHOF is a small family winery that has been welcoming guests to their bed and breakfast and making wine in the Alto Adige (Sudtirol in German...) since 1890. Grapes have been grown on the iconic, steep, chalky hillsides of this part of the Dolomites since the 1600s. Most of the wineries in this region are larger cooperatives, catering to the many small growers with small vineyard holdings, so it is rare and very exciting to find an estate that makes their own wine here. The fact that STROBLHOF also farms organically, allows the terroir of the Alto Adige to truly shine. Sauvignon Blanc is not a typical grape of Alto Adige and is only produced in specific cool and dry breezy conditions. Thanks to their high altitude (above 500m) the temperatures and winds at Stroblhof make for a perfect location. The grapes for their 'Nico' Sauvignon Blanc ripen in a healthy, dry environment and retain the typical "grassy" character. Thanks to the optimal exposition of these steep mountainside slopes the grapes get beautifully ripe producing a full bodied rendition. Notes of grapefruit, kiwi, juicy apple, peach and white melon intermingle with the hallmark cut grass and tomato leaf characteristics.
