To say that Michael Linke and Franz Hofbauer make precise, mind-blowingly correct wines full of crunchy acidity and pristine acidity is an understatement. Lauded for producing some of the best white wine in Austria (2024), the pair works with extreme elevation, terraced vineyards in the cool side valley appelation of the Wachau, the Spitzer Graben. Rohwerk is their natural wine line. This rare bottling of old vine Neuburger comes from the Schon and Trenning vineyards, some of the highest vineyards in the Wachau. As always, the wine is unfiltered, naturally fermented, with minimal SO2. It is raised in new 600 liter Stockinger barrels. Salty, spicy with grippy tannins this is a complex food wine extraordinaire. One that demands contemplation with its lengthy ever evolving finish.
