Hidden Treasures by Moric

Moric Tokaj and Hidden Treasures Furmint and Harslevelu 2023

$ 30.00

A new project by Roland Velich of Moric working with some incredible old vines in Hungary. A 70/30 blend of Furmint and Harslevelu. The Harslevelu adds delicate floral aromas, with the Furmint providing structure and lively acidity. The grapes come from a variety of old vineyards, some were planted between the two world wars, with the most recent planted in the 1980s. Grapes come from an array of exceptional sites: the Teleki and Lestar vineyards on the Tokaj Hills comprised of volcanic subsoil of andesite and dacite, with a thick layer of loess. The excellent Kovago and Heteny vineyards in the village of Tallya are layered with rhyolite tuff and rhyolite, giving complex minerality and acidity to the wines. The 2023 vintage was warm but balanced and was ideal for producing elegant, dry wines. The aromatic expressiveness of Harslevelu with notes of linden blossom and honey, elderflower, and a touch of clove and nutmeg. The Furmint brings complementary fruit to the blend with ripe apple, pear, and lime. Some finely integrated tannins provide structure and texture. Native yeast fermentation. Extended aging on the lees in old foudre and another 6 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks. No fining. Minimal SO2 and Vegan.
