The Erste Lage (Premier Cru) Kögl vineyard is one of the best Riesling sites along the Danube and is comprised of heavily weathered primary rock soils with crystalline slate and gneiss. The 30-year-old vines are planted on south-facing, old stone wall terraces between Krems and Stein an der Donau. Protected by the Steiner Kreuzberg mountain and proximity to the Danube, it is a very special microclimate. For centuries, it has been Salomon Undhof's premier Riesling site and highly sought after. Harvest is late October. Gentle pressed before 12 hours of maceration and two days on the must. Fermented in stainless steel tanks for 6 weeks before aging on the fine lees. Yellow tropical fruit, yellow peach, delicate blossom honey, and refreshing minerality. Taut, with bright acidity and a mineral-laden lemon zest finish. A wine for immediate enjoyment that will only grow more complex with age.
